Here are 14 of them we'd love to see return to television.Sam Barlow's multiple award-winning interactive trilogy Immortality made its debut in the FGS E3 2021 event (Image credit: Sam Barlow / Half Mermaid) The vast majority of these shows were a lot like Double Dare, in the fact they are trivia shows with a bizarre twist. We looked into the past to find some of the best game shows that aired between the '80s and '90s that could easily get a revamp for television today. If Double Dare can return, then there's a whole world of game shows from the '80s and '90s that would be a lot of fun today. Sadly, it's without the original host Marc Summers, but that got us thinking. Recently, Nickelodeon announced that its classic game show Double Dare will be returning to television this summers. While there is a big nostalgia factor for a lot of these shows, so many of them were so unique, it's worth taking another look at. It was a time when contestants had to run up a mountain in order to get a piece of a radical glowing rock or had to shop in a fake mall until they risked dropping in exhaustion. That wasn't the case in the '80s and '90s, when some of TV's most entertaining game shows were on the air. Aside from series like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, or The Price is Right, most new game shows are nothing more than straightforward trivia shows with no real fun kicker or edge to them. It has a high-resolution scanner, but the scan quality is only okay, so it isn't the best for digitizing photos. You can connect to the printer via Wi-Fi, USB, or Ethernet and print directly from an SD card. This all-in-one produces detailed and vibrant photos and supports various paper sizes up to 8.5" x 11". It also prints very slowly, taking around a minute and a half to print a single 4" x 6" photo.įor those on a tighter budget, we recommend the Canon PIXMA TR8620a. The scanner produces good-quality scans with nice coloring, but it has trouble capturing finer details, so it might not be ideal if you're looking to digitize photos. This printer works with Epson's Smart Panel mobile app, which you can use to print, scan, and perform maintenance tasks. ![]() You can connect via USB or Wi-Fi, and there's support for Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service. It still prints very detailed photos, but because it has a narrower color gamut than the six-tank ET-8550, some colors, like bright, saturated tones, don't come out as well. ![]() However, it only has a more conventional set of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink tanks. Like the pricier Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550, it's an all-in-one supertank model that yields thousands of prints with its ink reservoir filled to capacity, keeping costs of ownership very low. It has the usual Wi-Fi, USB, and Ethernet connectivity and can print directly from an SD card.įor a more modest mid-range pick, we chose the Epson EcoTank ET-2800, also known as the Epson EcoTank ET-2803 at Walmart and Target. As this is an all-in-one, you also get a scanner that produces high-quality scans, which is great for digitizing photos. One major advantage it holds over the Canon is its lower ownership costs: instead of traditional, expensive cartridges, it has a set of six refillable ink tanks that can yield thousands of prints once filled with relatively inexpensive replacement ink. The pictures still look amazing, just don't expect them to be exactly like the original. However, it does fall short of the Canon printer regarding color accuracy, with a tendency to oversaturate colors to make them more vibrant. ![]() Like the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 above, this printer produces detailed and colorful photos. If you need wide-format printing or a larger flatbed scanner, the ET-8550 is an excellent choice just expect to pay more. Wide-format printing is more of a niche use, so the ET-8500 probably makes more sense for most people. It also has a smaller 8.5" x 11.7" flatbed scanner (8.5" x 14" on the ET-8550). It performs identically to the flagship ET-8550 however, it can only print on papers up to 8.5" x 11", whereas the ET-8550 supports up to 13" x 19". If you don't need a professional-grade printer but still want high-quality photos, get the Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8500 instead, a variant of the Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 we tested. If you haven't noticed, this is a print-only model, so you'll need a separate scanner to digitize photos. That said, the cartridges are only good for about 400 color prints, and they're expensive, so you'll have to spend a fair amount of money on maintenance. This printer uses nine cartridges, including specific photo cartridges that work only on glossy photo paper, meaning you won't have to worry about depleting the photo ink if you need to print the occasional plain document or report. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, USB, and Ethernet, and there's support for Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service, so you can easily print from your Apple and Android devices without installing any drivers or a third-party app. ![]() It supports borderless printing and various paper sizes up to 13" x 19", making it a great choice for large-format prints, like posters. Since day one, Southwest had one true mission: to become a low-fare brand, making it possible for passengers to travel for all the important reasons in their lives-work, vacations, weddings, births, and deaths or simply to explore the world. All that changed after the passing of the Airline Deregulation Act, and Southwest began to win passengers' hearts from other states in the country. ![]() It was nothing but three lines connecting Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio – the Texas circle! The initial concept was named Air Southwest in 1967 and had to go through a number of legal and financial battles with rival airline groups in the aviation industry.īut this novel idea only worked in Texas because before 1979, the federal government at the time controlled interstate air travel and also decided the fate and the routes for all airlines. It all started when Herb Kelleher and Rollin King met in a bar and drew a business plan on a napkin. The long history of service of Southwest Airlines can be traced back to 1967. Other than that, services to other major airports are also scheduled to start in the coming years. In late 2020, Southwest started service to Miami International Airport and Palm Springs International Airport. Starting from only Dallas, Texas, at present, the airline has nine operating hubs that connect passengers from all around the country, making flying accessible to all. One thing that separates the airline from others is that it focuses on a point-to-point system and doesn't use the hub and spoke system of major airlines. With a fleet size of 737 Boeing airplanes, the Southwest's route system spans more than 105 destinations in 40 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. But over the past five decades, the airline has made a name for itself by becoming one of the largest airlines in the world in terms of passengers, fleet size, and routes. Southwest Airlines started small with the goal of flying in Texas between San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. The process is simple, straightforward, and hassle-free for all. So instead of calling the customer support helpline, you can simply hit the internet and learn about your flight details within minutes. The system is designed to ensure that the passengers and their loved ones stay up to date with the location of the plane at all times. In case you are a family member waiting at the airport to pick someone, you can search the flight using the route instead of the flight number to find out whether the flight has landed, is delayed, or still in transit. All you need is the flight number, and the date of departure and the system will generate the results for you. Irrespective of your location, timing, and flight, you can track the location and the flight status of any Southwestern flight using the flight tracker. The flight tracker allows passengers to track the location, flight status, and routes of flights in real-time to stay up to date with the latest information. Whether you are an in-transit passenger checking a connecting flight's status, or a friend or family member waiting on the arrival of an arriving passenger, you can gather all required information about a flight using the online flight tracker, on any connected device. Our online flight tracker extracts the location of an aircraft in real-time and transmits the data to a user's browser, providing flight status and position tracking. These aircraft are equipped with embedded sensors, which send positioning and other data to receivers on land or satellite-based. How Southwest flight status works behind the scenes: Using real-time on-board GPS tracking systems running on ADS-B technology and GPS satellite tracking technology, passengers can get the status of Southwest’s flights for any of its fleet of 737 Boeing aircraft. The airline covers more than a hundred domestic routes and flies to 10 additional countries as of 2022. Starting with only three carrier jets, the airline has made a name for itself in the United States and has held up its title to carry the most domestic passengers in the states since 2018. With its headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Southwest Airlines is the largest low-cost airline in the world at present. ![]() The challenge: when a user is involved in multiple campaigns across multiple sessions on different devices, how do you know which of these different touchpoints actually influenced the sale? Thankfully, modern tooling can solve this problem across teams. The problem is, these types of attribution cannot deliver the deep insights necessary for a holistic, cross-channel understanding of marketing performance across the whole consumer journey from the first touchpoint to the last click. Because those are not core skills in marketing, most marketers fall back on last-touchpoint models or outsource complex attribution to third-party attribution tools that don’t have a complete picture of the attribution data. ![]() The first (comprehensive data collection) is a data engineering problem and the second (statistical modeling) is a data science problem. Neither of these marketing measurement challenges should be addressed by the marketing team. First, it involves collecting and normalizing an enormous amount of data from a lot of different sources, and second it requires the application of statistical modeling techniques that are typically outside the skillsets of many marketing departments. To understand which marketing efforts are contributing more to a successful objective (conversion event) we have to evaluate it relative to all of the other campaigns, and this is very complicated. Instead of binary outcomes (this digital marketing campaign brought someone to our site or it didn’t), a user can have many marketing touchpoints, which introduces the idea of influence along a buyer's journey, and that’s where things start to get tricky. In short, moving beyond basic single-touch attribution introduces a number of complexities. Even so, advanced attribution is still hard. Today, though, data teams and marketers have more data than ever, increasing their appetite for more advanced attribution solutions. These limitations are due to the fact that many ad platforms were built when basic marketing attribution was enough for most companies. ![]() Upon first glance, it’s fairly straightforward to review metrics in ad platforms like Google ads to examine ROI on paid ad campaigns, and you may even be sending conversion data back to that platform, but you’re still restricted to evaluating only a fraction of the user interactions (one or two steps of the conversion path at best) that led up to and influenced a sale. The answer to this age-old budget allocation question boils down to determining which campaigns are working and which aren’t, but with the amount of data we collect on the customer journey today, it’s not always crystal clear which campaigns are which. Where should we spend more marketing budget? Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology genetically engineered mice with a heightened capacity to learn. But what if we improved the intelligence of our pets via gene manipulation? In fact this is already possible. Humans have long been superior to animals due to our intelligence. Look out for a chickenosaurus or a lizardosaurus in a pet store near you! They are the evolutionary descendants of the theropod (the category of two-legged dinosaur that includes the T Rex). He just has to get evolution to run backwards.īirds aren’t the only candidates available for this kind of gene manipulation. Horner claims he can make a dinosaur within a decade without ever having to use ancient dinosaur DNA. Other researchers have used this same technique to make bird embryos with snouts rather than beaks.īreeding chickens so that they grow limbs and scales instead of wings and feathers is not that far-fetched. These beasts had long tails, clawed fingers, and teeth. Horner is trying to genetically reverse-engineer chickens to look more like their Jurassic-period ancestor. Palaeontologist Jack Horner has recently claimed that there could be a possibility of de-evolving a chicken to create a sort of dinosaur, a “chickenosaurus.” Remember that birds are thought to have evolved from dinosaurs. However, there are a few scientists who think we could get close enough. Resurrection of the dinosaurs will probably never happen. Yes, even trapped in amber inside a mosquito stomach. But dinosaur bones are at least 65 million years old, so they can’t ever yield usable genetic information. It takes around 6.8 million years for every bond to be destroyed. While more recently-extinct animals make for great gene-resurrection practice, bringing back dinosaurs looks rather impossible. You can find out more about this fascinating project here. This in turn protects the permafrost which is crucial in trapping carbon gases deep beneath us. Large grazing animals, such as the wooly mammoth, compact and scrape away winter snow, allowing winter cold to penetrate deep into the ground. The goal is to re-introduce mammoth herds to the vast tracts of tundra and boreal forest in Eurasia and North America as part of an effort to fight climate change. CRISPR is cheap and has great potential in human medicine.Ī research project in northern Siberia called “Pleistocene Park” is using CRISPR technology to bring back the wooly mammoth. A genome-editing technique, called CRISPR, is being used to modify DNA by cutting out genes and pasting in new ones. For now, they are starting with more recent creatures, like woolly mammoths.
